Part 9: The Egg of Light
On the other side of the wall, Wess and Duster enter a room with a deck overlooking the castle courtyard. A fancy-looking needle-like object protrudes from the center. However, Wess says this isn’t the object they are looking for.

Once they enter the room to their right, a blast of energy flies their way. The camera pans further to the right to reveal it came from the girl we saw running around the castle earlier! Only after attacking them, she recognizes Wess.
Wess says the following:
“Oh, Princess! So it was you! My, how this brings back memories! Sometimes, I wouldn’t remember you for not but a little bit. No, no, no! Wait! I’m so giddy that I’ve mixed up my words! I haven’t forgotten you for but a bit! No, no, wait… Duster, you moron! Get your act together!”
I think it’s funny how Wess blames Duster for all his problems, even when they clearly are his own. More importantly, Wess refers to her as the Princess, whose pendant Duster took. The girl is currently caught in a trap. Explaining in rough language, she says that she can’t afford to be stuck forever, so she was ready to cut off her foot right then and there. But Wess offers to free her from the trap, using his extensive knowledge of Thief Arts.

Once the girl is freed, she notices Duster has her pendant and takes it back. She notes that his breath stinks. Duster introduces himself, and the girl is about to introduce herself. This is another one of those characters whom the player gets to name. The game describes her as “strong, wise, and rather masculine.” The default name that I will be using for her is “Kumatora.” Kumatora joins your party, as she is after the same important object we are. Even though she was injured by the trap that caught her, she doesn’t think anything of it. Right after that, an entity literally named, “the Word on the Wind” blows over to tell the player that Kumatora can harness psychic powers, or PSI, the same powers that the Magypsies gave to Claus as he ran off.
Further down this secret path, the crew comes across something especially important-looking. Wess says, “It seems to be known as the ‘Egg of Light’, or the ‘Hummingbird Egg’. Truth be told, not even I know anything about this egg. The Hummingbird Egg is a ball of secrets inside secrets that are inside even more secrets… Or something like that, supposedly, apparently.”

Kumatora adds, “And now that ball of secrets is needed. If this wound up in the wrong hands, the lid on the secrets would come undone, and bad things would happen.”
Wess continues, “Just what sort of hope – or calamity – is hidden away in this egg? Not even I know… In any case, this Hummingbird Egg is our secret.”
This Hummingbird Egg is no joke. This is a point where the game’s scale enlarges dramatically. The world’s secrets are hidden away in this little egg – I have no idea how, and I guess Wess and Kumatora don’t either.
Wess also spends no time on waiting to complain about Duster’s first failure to find the egg, calling him “a moron of a thief.” Kumatora replies with saying that there’s no point in calling him a moron, because if he really was one, he wouldn’t be able to understand. It’s nice that there is someone slightly more forgiving to accompany Wess.
Anyways, after this speech about how important this egg is, who else but the Pigmasks wait behind the door, trying to break it open!

Kumatora takes the egg off its stand, but Wess explains that he put traps around the room in case someone would take it. The floor collapses from underneath them, and they drop all the way to the basement of the castle into a pool of water, surrounded by skulls. Apparently, many, people have tried to take the egg before. Wess anxiously notices that the egg is missing (and Duster too), but then Duster rises up out of the water, along with the egg. Wess now forgives Duster for the 11 times he’s insulted him, since he finally proved himself useful to his father by securing the egg.

Even though Duster and his Father’s broken relationship has now been fixed by cheap tape, it’s no time to celebrate, because a giant serpent emerges from the waters!

After defeating the Oh-So-Snake, the team is carried off by another trap! The pool from he castle pulls them down a stream leading back to Tazmily. Fuel notices Wess and Kumatora washed up on the shore, and he calls his dad Lighter to help them get back to Wess’s house. But for the second time in two minutes, Duster is nowhere to be seen again, and is once more a ‘moron’.

The player is now put in Kumatora’s shoes to find the lost Duster. On your search, you can talk to two people looking out a wooden bridge. They are unfamiliar with Kumatora, and a child mistakenly refers to her as “mister” because of her demeanor.
After you cross the small bridge, you enter the town square, where many people are gathered together. Butch is mad with Duster, and can’t find him either. Apparently, the money Butch hid in the well is no longer there, and Duster was the only one he told the secret to. Knowing that Duster is a thief, he had to have stolen it, according to Butch. While he goes on his rant, everyone else is confused as to what ‘money’ even is. Butch explains that this would mark the first time the thief family has actually ever stolen anything, because there was never anything to steal beforehand. Kumatora speaks up, and Butch cowers behind Biff.
Flint and Boney walk onto the screen, and Flint tries to calm everyone down. This ends Chapter 2. Text begins to scroll up on the screen, as it did for the end of chapter 1:
“The mysterious group that has been tinkering with the forest creatures in an almost toy-like fashion has finally commenced its plan to alter the town, the lives, and even the hearts of the people.
It seems as if a grand scheme of some sort is hidden behind the actions of the suspicious peddler who has recently arrived.
However, not everyone is content to sit quietly by as the enemy continues its odious attacks from every angle.
Flint, whose family bonds were torn to shreds…
Wess and his son Duster, the Thieves of Justice…
Princess Kumatora, the mysterious girl who suddenly appeared…
Destiny is bringing together those who would use their power for good.
And what has become of Lucas, the crybaby..?”
Again, something terribly wrong is happening to Tazmily. In this chapter, we see the Pigmasks in full force, storming into Osohe Castle and assaulting anyone who gets in their way. To achieve whatever they want to do, they need this special “Egg of Light,” for whatever it does. If their goal is to disrupt and destroy, it seems to be working. Butch has lost all trust of his old friend Duster, who supposedly stole his precious money. Butch says there has never been anything to steal, but I can think of several valuable things in the village, and you may be able to as well. It’s only the perception of the village, who all loves each other, who decide there’s nothing worth stealing. But greed has slithered its way into Butch’s heart, and he believes he must hide everything for himself.
Flint, on the other hand, seems to have redeemed himself by this point. He is now the peacemaker of the village, even though he is more broken emotionally than Biff is monetarily. Something’s not right with Duster’s family, either. Every single time Wess opens his mouth to talk to his son, it’s to insult him. Where is Duster’s mother, if he even has one? Also, who is Kumatora? And how does only Wess know of her? Where has she been this whole time? And as the narration asks, what is Lucas up to now?
This concludes part 9 of the analysis.
